Official macOS App Support

Domain Monitor Support

Help for monitoring domain registrations, expiration dates, nameservers, DNS records, SPF, DMARC, DNS lookup history, and CSV import or export.

Getting Started

Manage domains from the Monitoring and Owned lists.

Add a domain

  1. Select Monitoring or Owned.
  2. Enter a domain such as example.com.
  3. Press Return or click the plus button.
  4. The app retrieves registration, expiration, nameserver, SPF, and DMARC information.

View domain details

Select a domain in the left column to see registration details, expiration status, primary nameserver, email anti-spoofing records, DNS tools, and saved DNS inquiry history.

Edit, move, or delete

  • Use Edit to correct or replace a domain name.
  • Use Move to transfer a domain between Monitoring and Owned.
  • Use Delete to remove a domain after confirmation.

Refresh registration information

Click the refresh button to retrieve the latest registrar, expiration, nameserver, SPF, and DMARC information for the current list.

DNS Lookup

Inspect common and advanced DNS records from within Domain Monitor.

Run a lookup

  1. Select a domain.
  2. Click DNS Lookup in the domain detail pane.
  3. The domain is entered automatically and the lookup begins.
  4. Review A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CAA, DNSSEC, and other available records.

Lookup timeout

DNS inquiries stop automatically after five seconds if a result is not returned. The app then displays DNS Lookup timed out instead of continuing to load indefinitely.

Five-second timeout protection

SPF and DMARC Anti-Spoofing Checks

Domain Monitor checks whether common email authentication records are present.

SPF indicator

SPF is shown as Defined, Missing, Multiple, or Error. Multiple SPF records should be corrected because a domain should publish a single SPF policy.

SPF record visibility

DMARC policy indicator

DMARC displays the domain policy from the p= tag: p=none, p=quarantine, or p=reject. Missing and invalid records are also identified.

DNS Lookup History

Review earlier DNS inquiry reports for a selected domain.

Saved reports

Domain Monitor stores the 50 most recent successful DNS lookup reports for each domain when history is enabled. Each row shows the inquiry date and expands to reveal the complete report.

Turn history off

Each domain has its own history toggle. Turning the feature off displays a warning that all stored DNS history for that domain will be permanently erased.

Erasing history cannot be undone

Import and Export

Move domain lists into or out of Domain Monitor using CSV files.

Import CSV

Choose Actions → Import CSV. A file containing one domain per line is recommended. Imported domains are added to the currently selected Monitoring or Owned list.

Export CSV

Choose Actions → Export CSV to save the current domain list, including registration details, expiration information, nameserver, SPF, and DMARC status.

Troubleshooting

Common checks to perform before contacting support.

Registration information is blank

  • Confirm the Mac has an active internet connection.
  • Click Refresh and allow the inquiry to finish.
  • Some registry services may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Confirm the domain is entered without spaces or a URL path.

DNS lookup did not complete

  • Verify the domain name is correct.
  • Try the inquiry again after checking network connectivity.
  • A timeout can indicate that the DNS server did not respond within five seconds.

SPF or DMARC is missing

Domain Monitor reports the public DNS records it receives. Contact the domain's email or DNS administrator before changing SPF or DMARC policies.

Include this information

  • Domain Monitor version and build number
  • macOS version
  • The affected domain name
  • A description or screenshot of the issue
  • Steps that reproduce the issue
